Thanks Joe, I was just fiddling around with options on a stock Aria. I had explored the voice rec in search, and the google translator ap. I had briefly examined text to speech earlier and was curious about options for t2s engines. This device indicates that it uses PICO. So, I was looking around? for what is PICO, and how does it compare to others, and is something newer better installable. Happy Easter.

As of 2.3.3, I have to be connected to WiFi or have Mobile Data turned on. This is fine if I'm at home or a hotel with Wifi. Yet, this is my 'pay as you go' phone so I'm not paying for a Mobile Data connection. Oh well, it's a minor annoyance; I wouldn't be talking to my phone in a public place anyway. Looking like a moron having a conversation with the phone, haha. Manual texting is fine by me in those circumstances.?

this should be free software, not text-to-speech. we already? have that. and to think they emphasized the fact that their TTS (not STT) will be "open source" at Google IO is insulting.

I really, really wish I could do this, is there anyway to accomplish this if your phone doesn't have the mic on the keyboard? I've tried everything: Settings, youtube searches, apps, nothing works. Couple things I found out. if you want punctuation say it at the end of a sentence.. such as "Do you need anything from the store question mark" and it will add the question mark. its also a great spelling tool. if i totally blank on how to spell something I just use this and it usually finds the word, as long as u say correctly. Iif you text a lot. if you break up it up by sentences it works best. side not If you have? ultra keyboard (best keyboard IMO) their speech interface works faster.

It's especially awesome for navigation.. just longpress the search button and say NAVIGATE TO X and? it will start Google Maps Navigation with the desired destination.
